Vernon has played an integral part in developing Vancouver's strong house music community. During his 12 years as both a DJ and promoter, Vernon has been associated with the industry's top talents. Vernon's deep respect for quality house and techno was best observed at Deepen, his long running (7+years) Saturday weekly at the Lotus Sound Lounge. On any given Saturday you would find most of the city's deep heads in attendance, listening to Vernon put the dance floor through a well-deserved workout. From stripped down minimal grooves, tasty acid jams, bouncing tech-house, jacking funk, the smoothest deep business and the occasional classic - his tracks all have one thing in common: They bear a lineage back to Jack himself. His productions have been featured on OM, Tim Fuller’s “Slightest Touch” CD on Bombay and his notorious Deepen Discs label.
Having discovered and fallen in love with electronic music in 1991, Abasi started collecting and making mixed electronica tapes. Today, his record collection has grown beyond control, and includes a healthy mix of all genres of music. DJ Abasi owns/spins many different styles, but he currently specializes in techno/minimal, electro*, dancerock, italo/nu disco, house and mash-up/eclectic.
Abasi and the Intimate crew have organized many legendary parties and club nights around town. Currently he helps organize and is a resident DJ @ SiGNAL Saturdays and Lotus Long Weekend. He has played locally at almost all Vancouver clubs as well as in the UK. His past residencies include Cheeky, Luscious, Shaken Not Stirred and Big Trouble.
