James Hopkins is a Vancouver based Producer/DJ who originally hails from Manchester, England. Born in January 1991, he moved with his family to Canada at age 7. From a young age he always had a passion for both listening and playing music. Having listened to classic rock and Hip – Hop growing up, it was not until his late teenage years James discovered House music. At the age of 18 he attended his first Dance show at a local nightclub. Almost immediately after he bought his first set of turntables and taught himself to DJ. Playing mainly at house parties and other small venues around the city, his interest in house music continued grow. He quickly went from listening to mainstream Electro and Progressive, to underground Tech House and Techno. As his passion for DJ’ing and love of House music grew, It was time to give producing a go. In 2011 he set up his first small studio and went to work. His first EP “The Masters Tools” was released April 2012 on Kiko Records, and quickly went to #16 on Traxsource top 100 list. Several more releases with Kiko soon followed, including 2 more reaching the top 100 billboard chart and Tech Essentials charts. Spending hours and hours in the studio he began to find the sounds he was looking for. Shifting from a more up beat bouncy style of Tech House to a heavier underground Techno vibe. Now only 6 months later James has signed over 20 releases on labels such as Miniaturesrec, Yellowjax , Kiko Records, Smash Records, LW Recording, Hi-life and Restricted Recordings to name a few. With many more originals, collaborations, and remixes already in the works, 2013 is already shaping up to be a good year.
