Richie Hawtin (Make-up Show)

Celebrities Nightclub
1022 Davie St

Canada's RICHIE HAWTIN has made his mark on electronic music by being both inventive and innovative. His career takes him all over the world with tour dates in over 25 nations on average each year. Born in Banbury, England, his family moved to Windsor in the late 1970's. As a teenager Hawtin found inspiration to make music from a combination of techno music from Detroit, his father's record collection and an obsession with computers, video games and science fiction. As a recording artist, producer, remixer, live performer and DJ, his productions are recorded in Windsor and released on his now legendary Plus 8 & Minus record labels. Today, in between touring the globe he spends time in his studios in Windsor, Canada and Berlin, Germany. On record it was Hawtin's recording moniker of PLASTIKMAN that put him in the limelight, with a mix of techno and ambient sounds. His dedication to his craft has also received notoriety, performing live with the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra, creating sound installations for the French Ministry of Culture's Millennium Celebration and composing music for the Torino 2006 XXth Olympic Winter Games opening ceremonies.

All tickets from the May 28th show will be honored at this event, and will call transfered.

SiGNAL presents Guns 'N Bombs
feat. Expendable Youth + Ollie Plé
Lotus Sound Lounge
455 Abbott St @ Pender

L.A. production tandem Guns N Bombs beat the bloghaus types to the punch by signing with trés chic French label Kitsuné late in 2006 (and on a MySpace message no less). Their rip-snorting "Nothing Is Getting Us Anywhere" shredded U.S. dancefloors throughout 2007, with its desperate robot vocals and a sawtooth router bit. Formed by Ima Robot bassist Filip Turbotito and Chicago DJ Johnny Love, they have already remixed tracks from Klaxons and Chromeo. A forthcoming album, not picked up by a label so far, should make a serious impact on the culture of U.S.-bred dance music. Of course, neither Love nor Turbotito were born inside our borders (Italy and Denmark, respectively). -Pitchfork Media, Sept. 28, 2007

Unpretentious and unforgivingly badass, L.A.'s Guns 'n' Bombs (including an Ima Robot member) single-handedly put the United States outside New York back on my techno map, blow current German electro standards out of the water and give Paris’s New French Touch a run for its money. -Montreal Mirror

Miss Kittin & The Hacker (Live)

Plaza Nightclub
881 Granville St

Grenoble born Caroline Hervé aka Miss Kittin, has over the past years become one of the most inspiring DJs and voices to emerge within the electronic music scene. Her vocal collaborations have produced seminal moments of dancefloor heaven. Alongside long-time production partner The Hacker, tracks such as ‘Frank Sinatra’ and ‘1982’ propelled them into the spotlight whilst further collaborations with Felix Da Housecat ‘Silver Screen (Shower Scene)’, Golden Boy ‘Rippin Kittin’, Sven Vath ‘Je T’aime’ and T. Raumschmiere 'The Game Is Not Over' have confirmed Miss Kittin’s star billing status.

She released her debut solo artist album 'I Com' in 2004, that showed her spreading her wings with jacking Chicago house, distorted punk attitude, skanked-up dub and electronic pop as the singles Professional Distortion, Requiem For A Hit and Happy Violentine aptly displayed. The heavily-accented deadpan delivery over techno beats that established her notoriety on previous recordings has been unseated by a desire to sing, to scream, to rap and to croon, all of which she manages to do with ample helpings of sly wit and wordplay and a musical landscape that incorporates both brazen beats and intoxicating atmospherics.

However for all her releases and collaborations Kittin’s first and main love remains DJing. From starting out in 1994 Kittin’s name first appeared on a flyer in the chill-out room for a rave in an old military fort in the mountains. From there on Kittin hasn’t looked back. From playing harder edged techno, rave classics, Chicago, acid and Detroit techno Kittin has progressed into more leftfield, electro and electronic realms. Able to play Prince with Black Dog or Aphex Twin with a new Kompakt 12” she has an uncanny and intuitive sense of selection that not only flows but also maintains that primary sense of the party. Anyone who has seen Kittin dancing behind the decks or grabbing the microphone mid-set will understand only too well that she is also a clubber at heart. As Kittin says, “I love playing records, it's probably the best thing I know to do in life. I do it because it's big fun and it makes me free.”

Currently based in Paris, Kittin just released her second solo album "BatBox" on her own label "Nobody's Bizzness" and is rightly placed as one of the most revered and recognizable artists in dance music today. As for the future? It’s looking purr-fect.
